What would be the protocol if a child enters sudden cardiac arrest while playing a sport on the field?

When the ambulance arrives, do they try to resuscitate the child with those electric shock devices while they get to the hospital? What if they child dies before he gets to the hospital? Do they still give him a room and try to save him?
