How do you make a game with a launcher run in DX9?

I have a few games that load a launcher first and then start the game, i have tried going in and making a shortcut out of the actual game application but they fail to start without the launcher running first. i need to know how to get the GAME to run in DX9 not the launcher. I am running windows 7 home premium and im not sure whether to use "DX9" or -DX9 as well. Thanks for your time
