Minecraft cant connect to minecraft.net problem?

when i try to log in to minecraft it says that it can;t connect to minecraft.net. I have tried downloading the launcher again but it still doesn't work. when i log in it says i can play offline or try again but it never works. it isn't that the website is down because i can still play in the browser it just the launcher dosen't work. all want to know is there a way to fix this or not. I dont want to play in browser because i cant use mods, its been like this FOREVER and i am tired of it, its not that my java is out of date (i dont think) and i try to log off website and try on there but nada! PLEASE HELP
