Why cant i download stuff for sims 3?

Whenever i try to download something from sims3.com it brings me to the sims 3 game launcher and appears to start downloading because i see the hour glass thingy but when it does that i cant click on anything in the game launcher and i can only move the cursor and the item just does that for like hours and in the end nothing new even downloads. someone help please.
