It definitely normal to be very light towards the end. Theres two options for this stage of the period - light tampons (e.g. libra, the green packaged ones) or panty liners. If you are going swimming, a light flow tampon would be best. You will be able to get it out due to the natural moisture inside as well. That will soften the tampon. Also, if you have trouble using tampons, try the silk-ease covered ones. They are great for starting out.
